Swarm Magic: How Slumgum Works Wonders for Beekeepers

First off, I want to tell you about what is Slumgum and how can it is the secret weapon for swarm catching.

Slumgum is the sticky, stinky residue left over from bees wax processing.

One of the properties is that Slumgum is an absolute bee magnet, bees absolutely love the smell of warm fresh slumgum. Any bees in the immediate area are immediately.

Beekeepers can use this to our advantage and lure bees to where we want their attention, such as in our swarm traps. In the photo below, you will see how I use slumgum to bait the inside of my swarm traps. Applying Slumgum to the inside of swarm traps makes them “smell like home” to a bee. Since slumgum is a mix of honey, brood comb, pollen and bee parts, the combined scents are very attractive to bees and indicative of the scents from a bee colony.
